Nose Termite

All termites are destructive and they are pests because of this. Of the different types of termites that exist, the nose termite is unique. It does not look like your usual eastern subterranean termite in its entirety in that it has a snout and has the ability to build extensive networks under the ground. They prefer damp soil because they like it soft. They do not like the clay that some species of termites enjoy.

The worker nose termites will work very hard on these complex underground networks in order to find their way to food sources. They are known to tunnel through mud where they can find their way into your home. All of the other termites follow through these tunnel networks and they find their way into your home.

Tubes

The tubes that nose termites build are made of mud and they go above ground. For instance, if there is a tree stump and the termites discover this, they are going to begin feeding on the tree stumps. If they encounter your home, they are going to start feeding upon your home. When they find your home, they will make mud tubes that run up the foundation of the home and into cracks and gaps that grant them entry into the homes.

Once they gain entry, they will consume the wood within your home. They will attack books, boxes, and they will continue to feed until they are discovered and exterminated. You can use the services of a termite control company to get rid of them so that your home’s structure is not severely compromised. Over time, termites weaken structures and this means that the structure could eventually collapse. Many times, individuals do not discover that they have been attacked by termites until after the termites have been there for a while and find that the damage that has been caused is quite expensive.

Even if you notice tubes anywhere else on the property, such as along tree stumps, storage buildings, or even another home in your neighborhood. If you have nose termites in your neighborhood, then you need to go ahead and put preventive measures in place to make sure they don’t attack your home next. When you have a termite control company lay down preventative measures, you are saving thousands of dollars in repairs and on future extermination costs.

Traits

There are certain traits to nose termites. Those traits include their very visible snout. The reproductive show up as black termites, so they are easy to identify if you are looking at a colony. The worker termites are more or less like the worker termites of other species. They are very light colored. The nose termite looks almost translucent compared to the worker termites of other species. And just like other species, the soldier termites have large heads. You can easily identify them amongst the rest. The soldiers are responsible for making sure the colony is protected. They won’t bite animals or humans, but they will attack other insects.

So if you have nose termites in your home or even around your home, you do have a problem that needs to be taken care of as soon as possible. If you don’t, then you may be facing expensive repairs in the future. These are repairs that you certainly don’t want to have to deal with because they can be messy. But know if you employ a termite control specialist, you can minimize that damage, thus minimize the cost of the damage. In other words, extermination can save you a lot of money although it costs money to have done.
