Termite Control Bait

Pest termite control bait is an effective pest control method. The termite is quite the incredible insect. Unlike other household pests, termites have the potential to do some serious damage to the actual structure of one’s home. Like many insects, termites are hardwired to dwell in areas that are closest to the proximity of their two needs: food and water. Food they get from the wood in one’s house and the water is usually taken from household piping and other plumbing. These are good things to keep in mind when dealing with a termite infestation of any kind. Because when one does have termites crawling around the house one of the best ways of dealing with them is to use termite baits and traps.

Using Termite Control Bait

If the termites are already inside the house than it is time to use baits and traps. Termites are not lone creatures; in fact they exist in large groups called colonies. These colonies can have up to thousands of termites all working together for one common goal. That goal is mainly food and water. So if one is spotted, one can surely bet that many more are not too far behind.

Keeping this in mind will help one maximize their use of termite control bait when dealing with termites. Placement of a trap and bait is extremely important when trying to eradicate a termite infestation. When beginning, start placing the bait or trap in small condensed spaces. Examples include crawl spaces, attics, closets and other such spots in the home. By placing these weapons against insects in tight spaces one is forcing the termite to come into contact with it. Termites are likely to move around the trap or bait if they are positioned in open spaces. If one is able to locate the colony, then placing the bait or trap near it will do considerable damage to the termite. Try and spot the part of the house where termites are entering this will help locate where the colony resides. Note that many termites burrow underground and chances are they underneath the house. This is especially the case when dealing with subterrean termites.

How Termite Control Bait Works

What is really inside a bait is a poison that kills termites. The purpose of the bait, is not simply for termites to be duped in the name of control, it is to give the termites a poison that it will bring back to the colony. Since termites take whatever food they find or forage back to their colony, the baits will administer the poison to countless termites once it’s been taken by a single worker. Traps are similar in set up and make when it comes to pest control. Though, instead of spreading poison to a whole colony they simply kill the insect unfortunate to step into the trap. This is why it is important to keep baits near colonies for maximum control because there is a chance it might die from the poison before he gets back home.

This poison utilizes a type of chemical compound as its control method. There are basically two different types of chemical compounds in termite control bait utilized by pest control companies and they are used for different purposes. One is a slower acting agent that works much like a trap. In fact, it is often the case that this same chemical compound is used in baits. When termites come into contact with the chemical compound it becomes infected with a contagious and deadly killing agent. While odd this is a great way to utilize termite bait control. As it comes into contact with other termites, they in turn become infected. When the first termite makes its way back to the colony then it is only a matter of time before every colony member becomes infected. This chemical can also sterilize termites so they can’t reproduce which is another good reason for termite control bait. Since the chemical is slow acting it destroys an infestation over time, though does so thoroughly.

The second kind of chemical used in termite control bait to eradicate termites is a fast acting type. When a termite comes into contact with something of this nature, they will most certainly die right away. This termite control bait is an instant chemical formula best for initial infestation treatment, what pest control companies call “active areas” or “problem areas”, and make sure no more further damage is done to the house or building. They will not rid a property from an infestation as more are bound to come back. Inevitably, if an infestation has become rampant then a mixture of both chemical compounds will be used. This a combo termite control bait system. First a fast acting agent to kill off the initial termites and then a treatment of the slow acting agent to make sure none return.
